During the development of an ECU it is necessary to perform extensive CAN conformance tests. The CANoe Test Package VAG creates a CANoe configuration for this purpose. The configuration includes test implementations according to the corresponding Volkswagen test specifications. The tests run fully automated and may be repeated at any time. Thus, the test effort is kept to a minimum.

Requirements


Input Files

The Volkswagen OEMs distribute to their suppliers the below listed input files that are required for the generation of tests with the CANoe Test Package VAG:

  • Test Base Adjustment Documentation (TBAD) for the ECU

  • CAN database (DBC) for the network

  • Partial network description (VSDE) for the network (only for partial network operation)

Test Hardware

There are 3 possible test setups with different test hardware. Which setup applies best depends mostly on the ECU’s current consumption but also on personal preferences (e.g. regarding cabling of the hardware):


Test setup for ECU current consumption < 2.5 ampere

1)  VH1150 based test setup for ECU current consumption <2.5 A:

  • VH1150 - Hardware for automation of ECU conformance testing 

  • VH6501 - CAN/CAN FD disturbance hardware and network interface for CANoe


2a)  Small VT System based test setup for ECU current consumption <70 A:

  • VT7001A – VT System’s power module for automation of ECU conformance testing 

  • VH6501 - CAN/CAN FD disturbance hardware and network interface for CANoe

  • Controllable power supply from third-party vendor


Full VT System based test setup for ECU current consumption < 70 ampere

2b)  Full VT System based test setup for ECU current consumption <70 A:

  • VT6011 – VT System´s real-time module for executing the real-time part of CANoe

  • VT7001A – VT System’s power module for automation of ECU conformance testing

  • VH6501 - CAN/CAN FD disturbance hardware and network interface for CANoe

  • Controllable power supply from third-party vendor

Test Coverage

The CANoe Test Package VAG 4.0 offers an implementation of the following Volkswagen test specifications:

  • High Speed CAN

    • DUM.857.BE.1

  • Network Management High and Network Power Management

    • DUM.000.AC.A
