Part No: MPTP-I2C/SPI-PA
The versatile I2C/SPI Protocol Analyzer is the ideal tool for the
embedded engineer who is developing an I2C or SPI based product. The
analyzer provides a high performance monitoring solution in a small,
portable package. Perfect for engineers in the field and in the lab.
We have also expanded the functionality of the I2C/SPI Protocol Analyzer
by adding the ability to monitor the MDIO bus at up to 20 MHz.
Features
- Non-intrusively monitor I2C up to 4 MHz
- Non-intrusively monitor SPI up to 24 MHz
- Non-intrusively monitor MDIO up to 20 MHz (Clause 22 and Clause
45)
- Real-Time Data Capture and Display - Watch I2C, SPI, and MDIO
packets as they occur on the bus.
- Bit-level timing down to 20 ns resolution.
- Fully Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X compatible
- Includes full function monitoring tools
- Low Cost
Detailed technical information about the I2C/SPI can be found in the datasheet.
Actual SPI capture performance is dependent on CPU speed and
SPI bus throughput. 24 MHz SPI capture has been tested for typical
applications (e.g., captures of a few hundred SPI packets). Depending on
user configuration, the maximum achievable capture throughput for continuous
streaming applications may be less than 24 MHz.
What is Included in I2C/SPI Protocol Analyzer...
Every unit comes complete with the following items:
- I2C/SPI unit
- 6 foot USB A->B cable
- Software CD
- Windows USB Drivers
- Linux USB Hot Plug Configuration files
- Data Center Software
- Datasheets
- Documentation
Specifications
Non-intrusive capture I2C, SPI, and MDIO data
The analyzer has high-impedance inputs so it will
not affect the system under test and distort the results. Simply attach the
I2C/SPI inline to passively capture the data traffic to the target
devices.
Nearly Limitless Capture
Captured data is streamed via High-Speed USB directly to your computer.
The amount of data captured is limited only by the amount of physical memory
that is available on the machine.
Bit-Level timing
Not only can you get timings for an entire packet, it is also possible to
get timing for each individual bit in the packet. The analyzer can return
bit-level timing down to a 20 ns resolution.
High-Speed USB 2.0
The monitor is a bus-powered, High-Speed USB 2.0 device. This provides
two major benefits. As a high speed device, all the data captured by the
monitor are transferred to the test computer at 480 Mbps. As a bus-powered
device, the monitor does not require a power adapter. This makes the monitor
the ideal tool for engineers in the field. Just plug it into a High-Speed
USB 2.0 port on your laptop and you are ready to go.
Low Cost
The I2C/SPI Protocol Analyzer comes
complete with software for only in single unit quantities. Additional
discounts are available for larger volumes. There are no additional yearly
support contracts. There are no fees for software updates.
This low price means that it is immediately affordable for a company to
provide every developer with their own analyzer.
The benefits of the analyzer’s low cost are:
- Less time wasted because developers do not
have to share analyzers or go to the lab to debug simple problems
- Shorter development cycles because
developers can identify and fix problems quickly and easily
- Less wasted time means higher productivity
Future-Proof
The monitor is completely field-upgradable via USB. We are committed to
improving the analyzer and making these improvements available to our
customers free of charge. There are no yearly support contracts and no
software update fees.
Data Center Software
The Data Center Software is the free software that is included with the ™
USB 480 Protocol Analyzer. Everyone is welcome to download this software
from our website to allow for easy collaboration through the sharing of
capture data files.
Software Features include:
- Capture and display I2C and SPI traffic in true real time with
LiveDisplay™ technology
- Interactive filtering and searching in real time with LiveFilter™ and
LiveSearch™ tools
- Packets data grouped in an expandable tree view format
MDIO Support
MDIO support is no longer available in version 3.00 of the Data Center
software. Additionally, a few features from the previous version of the Data
Center application will be temporarily unavailable as they are migrated to
the new platform. If you require these features, please download version
2.20 of the Data Center application from the Data Center Product Downloads
section.
Rosetta Language Bindings - Development API
- Develop custom solutions in C/C++, C#, VB, .NET, and Python
- Clean API is well-documented and easy to integrate
- Fully Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X compatible
- Royalty-free API can be used without licensing fees
- No extra development kit to buy, you can download
it before you even buy an I2C/SPI Protocol Analyzer.
Compatibility
The Protocol Analyzer was engineered from the very beginning to be a
cross-platform device. The software and utilities for the Protocol Analyzer
function on Windows, Linux and Mac OS X so that you can develop software for
your preferred platform.
The software is officially supported on Windows XP (SP2 or later, 32-bit
only), Windows Vista (32-bit and 64-bit), and Windows 7 (32-bit and 64-bit).
The software has been designed for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 and 5 with
kernel 2.6. Customers have reported successful operation with SuSE and
Ubuntu distributions. Please be aware that there may be significant
differences and idiosyncracies in the way that different distributions of
Linux operate. As such, we may not be able to support your particular
distribution of Linux. Support will be offered on a case-by-case basis.
The software is supported on Intel versions of Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger and
10.5 Leopard.
The software will run on 64-bit Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X systems as a
32-bit application.
